Shire Beds

However, spare a thought for the many homeless people in the UK who never get to enjoy a good night’s sleep. One bed manufacturer has decided to help in this respect and has made a heart-warming gesture to a Leeds charity that supports the homeless.

Specialist Contract Range

A comfortable bed is something that everyone deserves. With that in mind, Shire Beds, a bed manufacturer based in Dewsbury, has donated twelve foam mattresses that come with the added benefit of being waterproof, to St George’s Crypt, a Leeds charity for the homeless, vulnerable and those who are battling addiction. The donated mattresses are all top quality and reliable mattresses from the company’s specialist contract range.

Simple Luxury

Sales and marketing director of Shire Beds, Fara Butt, said, “We are delighted to be able to work with St George’s Crypt. We are acutely aware of the rising statistics of homelessness, especially in our local area and wider community. This is why we want to help at least a few people to enjoy the simple luxury of a good night’s sleep, which so many take for granted. It is the least that we can do, and in-keeping with the season, have a deep sense of wanting to give something back for those who are less fortunate than others at Christmastime.”

Outstanding Service

A spokesperson for St George’s Crypt spoke of how pleased they were with the generous donation from Shire Beds. They said, “We are grateful to Shire Beds for the much-needed mattresses. Every donation goes towards providing the outstanding service we offer to the most vulnerable and needy of Leeds.”

Reliable and Top-Quality Supplier

Here at Beds Glasgow, we appreciate that there is nothing more important than a good night’s sleep, which is why we ensure that all our mattresses are of top-quality. When you purchase a mattress from us, you can rest assured that you are dealing with a reliable supplier.

John Lewis

However, recent reports suggest that some mattresses provided by other top suppliers have been failing elements of testing. As a result, a whole new range of tests is being implemented to ensure maximum safety and comfort going forward.

New and Improved

Following on from the Cabinet Maker’s Mattress Report, John Lewis has agreed to take part in a new and improved level of testing after conducting their own investigations. Two sample mattresses were used from John Lewis to take part in the report, one of these passed all tests while the other failed in certain areas.

Head of product technology at John Lewis, Dave Mallinson, made a statement to Cabinet Maker, saying, “Two of our mattresses were included in the tests and we were very disappointed that one of them appeared to not meet our high standards. Although we no longer sell the mattress concerned, it had previously passed all its testing. There is nothing more important to us than the safety of all of the products we sell; we work hard to make sure that all of our own brand mattresses comply with relevant regulation and they are all rigorously tested.”

Enhanced Level of Testing

He added, “Following the report, we asked the manufacturer to fully investigate and also carried out our own thorough independent investigations. As a result, we have agreed a new and enhanced level of testing that goes beyond that required of BS7177. We hope this will ensure they are as safe as they can be and that our customers can continue to have total confidence in the quality of John Lewis own brand products.”

If you are looking to purchase a new mattress but want to ensure that you are buying from a reliable and top-quality supplier, and then look no further than Beds Glasgow. We have an extensive selection of exclusive beds and mattresses at fantastic prices.

Back Pain in Younger People

For a lot of people, nothing is more important than a good night’s sleep; it rejuvenates the body after a long and stressful day. However, more and more of the younger generations are suffering from back pain due to a sedentary lifestyle and bad posture; this is causing many issues when they try to get comfortable at night.

Back Pain in Younger People

Sedentary Lifestyle and Bad Posture

Private healthcare group Bupa have complied a list of data from over 60,000 medical procedures in 2015 and found that those in their 20s and 30s are being treated for a range of problems including back pain that are stereo typically associated with old age. The data has shown that, in most cases, a sedentary lifestyle and bad posture are to blame for issues such as back pain.

Bupa also found that treatment that would usually be offered to older people was increasing in younger people, aged primarily between 25 and 45. Experts have warned that because these individuals are continually hunching over their mobile phones and other devices, along with sitting at a desk for lengthy periods of time, there is a corresponding rise in back and neck pain.

Concerns

In a survey conducted by the British Chiropractic Association (BCA), 45 per cent of respondents aged 16 to 24 admitted to suffering from back or neck pain, compared to just 28 per cent of 18 to 24-year-olds who were asked the same question the year before. BCA chiropractorTim Hutchfulsaid that he was “concerned that the number of patients under the age of 30 coming through our doors is increasing”.

He then added, “When people use laptops or mobile phones in bed, they tend to forget their posture, hunch over the screen and leave their spine unsupported, which can damage posture and cause back or neck pain.”

When it comes to back pain, an orthopaedic mattress helps alleviate some of the discomfort; if you are suffering from back pain, like many of the individuals from the surveys mentioned above, contact us here at Beds Glasgow. We have a fantastic range of beds for all situations and circumstances.
