So, it’s the time of year when you feel your sleeping pattern has gone out of whack because the clocks have gone back. It’s great you get to spend an extra hour in bed, but, for many people, the clocks changing can be a nuisance. It can disrupt your body clock, which you may struggle to adjust to.
It may not seem like that big a deal, as it’s only an extra hour, and we can stay in bed for longer. But if you have gotten used to going to bed at a certain time, to get the required eight hours of sleep, it can affect your routine. This may be enough to interrupt your rest or stop you from dropping off in the first place.
However, there are some steps you can take to become accustomed to the changes. Many feel you could simply try going to bed an hour earlier, or turning in an extra 15 minutes every night, to acclimatise to the clocks going back.
It may seem fundamental, but if you are having trouble falling asleep, you could prepare yourself for getting some rest at night. Experts recommend you build up a routine and stick to it. Many advise you turn in at the same time at night, as well as wake up at the same time every morning.
It is also advised, to get some sleep, you stop drinking caffeine products like coffee, tea, or cola drinks in the late afternoon or evening. Some think drinking alcohol at night could help you drop off, but only on a short-term basis. However, if you continue to drink, it could disrupt your sleeping pattern, leaving you exhausted or overtired the next day.
You should also avoid stimulus which could occupy your mind and keep you awake. This can be achieved by keeping off your mobile phone or watching tv shows or movies on your laptop.
To improve your sleep, you should also exercise more. If you go for a run, take a long walk, or enjoy a session at the gym, alongside other possibilities, you can tire yourself out.
If you are having sleeping problems, it can be difficult to maintain your body clock. This can be intensified when the clocks go forward or back, but there are various measures you can follow to get a better rest. Don’t let the changing of the seasons keep you awake at night.
